CASLO ASLSK Mini

A new feature of CASLO in 2025 was the first ever ASLSK Mini. Shandy Ahern was the winner of this 3 game round-robin event, scoring a perfect 3-0 record. We welcomed the SKers into our group and hope they will be a growing part of CASLOs-to-come.

Just the Facts

CASLO XXIX was held at the Best Western Hotel in Bells Corners, a suburb of Ottawa. 33 players took place in the main tournament with another 4 joining for the ASLSK Mini. The weather was cool and wet, perfect for pushing cardboard. In the main tournament, 5 rounds of 16 games were scheduled. Sunday saw few early departures but even so, 14 matches took place – giving CASLO a 98% completion rate. The energy and commitment to ASL was greatly aided by the terrific hospitality provided by the on-site High Fives sports bar and restaurant. The welcome, the food, and mainly the beer, helped celebrate those moments of ASL joy, sooth the pain of all those damn 12s, and helped friendships form and grow.

Winners of this year’s Dice Awards:

Most 2’s : Brent Pollock – 26

Most 12’s : Rob Wiebe – 30

Deadliest Sniper : Mike Rodgers – 35

Best ROF : Mike Rodgers – 7

Close Combat Commando : Adrian Earle – 26

Sportsmanship Award : George Kaloxilos

The Close Combat Commando Award goes to the player who, over the five rounds of the tournament, amasses the highest net CVP from their Close Combats. Adrian achieved ALL of his 26 CVP in one game, killing three halftracks, fully loaded, extra pickes, extra mustard!!

Many Thanks

First of all, to our great sponsors: MMP, LFT, BFP, LCP, Hazardous Movement, Battleschool, Broken Ground Design, the Kansas City ASL Club, and Tadenac Games. We had a loaded prize table which meant everyone could go home with something new. The table was swept clean and all your generous contributions have found a good home! Thanks for your support.

Next, to those from our local ASL community in Ottawa, who helped with the organization of the event, notably Chris Doary, Mike Rosberg and Jack Stalica. And to those in the larger ASL community who found a way to make a contribution – especially George Kelln for the Timbits and coffee! Your assistance was appreciated.

See Ya Next Year!!

Thanks to all those who came to CASLO. Hope you went home with new memories of great ASL games and with new ideas for future CASLO’s.
